Kickboxing: Fall Program Launch

New Monday & Wednesday Kickboxing Classes Start October 23rd & 25th, 2023 and Progress Through the Fall.

Instructor: Ryan A. Surrell
Time: Mondays & Wednesdays 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Cost: No cost for members. $15 for non-members.
Safety Gear: protective headgear, mouthpiece, hand wraps, and kickboxing shin guards will be required. They will be provided initially but you’ll want to eventually get your own.

No Experience Necessary: New this season, anyone can drop-in to Monday night’s class, regardless of experience level. Everything you need will be provided to get you started. Come give it a try and see what it’s all about!

Description: A high energy class that teaches you all the kickboxing skills in a fun teamwork environment. Abilities and fitness levels matched with partners. Skills, technique, and fitness will improve at all starting levels.

Mondays: Introduction to Kickboxing. This beginner/intermediate friendly class will give you a great foundation and introduce new skills each week.

Wednesdays: Intermediate Kickboxing. This intermediate+ class will put your skills to use and challenge you to a more intense workout.

Can I do both classes? Yes! Beginners will want to start with the Monday class, but once they have some experience they will also enjoy the Wednesday class, they should just be prepared for a more intense workout with less instruction. Likewise, intermediate+ participants will enjoy the intensity of the Wednesday class, but will also benefit from the Monday class to learn and review basic technique while still getting a good workout. 

Mondays at 6:30 p.m.: Introduction to Kickboxing

Experience Level: beginners to intermediates looking to learn or review the basics and build a solid foundation.

Segment One: Stance, offense/defense, kicks, breathing techniques, and drills, culminating with the Celebration of Knowledge. 

Learn the basics of kickboxing and break down the “how and why” focusing more specifically on learning the skill and drill, offense, and defense lessons taught in the discipline of kickboxing.  

Skills develop and confidence builds every week as we begin to turn up the intensity utilizing our strike mitts and kick pads, putting our newly honed skills to use as we develop and improve striking techniques. Conclude with the Celebration of Knowledge.  

Segment Two: Point sparing, match rules, mock matches, round conditioning, culminating with the Showcase of Champions.

The second portion of this program will be the segue into contact/point sparing. This will be formatted with mock matches, rounds, and torments. Learn the rules of matches and how to judge scores and coach rounds. Athletically this is more intensely focused on round and circuit conditioning. 

The culminating experience will be a showcase of champions, an in-house mock point tournament. This is intended to expose you to how to train with intent when partaking in a competitive tournament event.

Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.: Intermediate Kickboxing

Experience Level: for those with a solid foundation in kickboxing and ready to take their training up a notch, whether preparing for a competition or simply looking for a challenge to improve their overall fitness.

An intense and dynamic experience that will elevate your skills to the next level. In this class, we prioritize a well-rounded training approach, focusing on various aspects of kickboxing to challenge and strengthen both your body and mind.

Rounds: Dive into extended rounds of kickboxing drills, allowing you to refine your techniques, enhance your stamina, and perfect your form. Each round will bring a new level of intensity and skill development.

Conditioning: We’ll work on ring-specific exercises and drills to improve your agility, footwork, and spatial awareness, ensuring you’re confident and comfortable in the confines of a makeshift ring.

HIIT Circuits: High-intensity interval Training (HIIT) is a core component of our class. These circuits are designed to push your cardiovascular limits, boost your endurance, and burn calories effectively, helping you reach your fitness goals.

Sparring: Get the chance to practice your sparring skills in a controlled and safe environment. Work with partners to refine your defensive and offensive maneuvers, all while gaining valuable experience.

Contact Drills: Our experienced instructors will guide you through contact drills that focus on precision, control, and safety. You’ll learn how to apply your skills effectively without compromising safety.
