VS&F Approach to COVID-19

By Dan Doenges | In Community, Gym | on March 12, 2020

Hello Members

Here is an email we sent out to our staff that we think provides helpful information concerning how we’re handling the COVID-19 (coronavirus). In the spirit of transparency we wanted to share it with you as well.

Hello VS&F Team,

As everyone is taking in the daily news, I thought it would be helpful to know where Vermont Sport & Fitness leadership stands on COVID-19 (Coronavirus) response.

After much research of our own Leslie and I would like to maintain the precautionary, calm and collected approach to this situation. We will continue to encourage best health practices, like washing hands and using hand sanitizer, and not using the club when you’re sick. We would like to encourage all the staff to also take this measured approach. This is something to take very seriously but there is no reason to panic or add to the drama of the situation.

There is currently no perceived impact on the club membership or visits. The general consensus is that the virus will be in Rutland at some point and I still do not believe that is a reason to panic. We should just continue to be vigilant with the health and hygiene practices that we have all stepped up in recent days.

The cleaning crew and front desk staff are very aware of our needs and are doing their job to keep the club clean and sanitized. Members have also been doubling their efforts when wiping down equipment, washing hands and using the hand sanitizers.

We also increased the effectiveness of the spray bottles throughout the club for members to use when wiping down equipment. We have gone from a general disinfectant to peroxide cleaner that is listed under the EPA’s Registered Antimicrobial Products for use against Novel Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, the cause of COVID-19.

The yellow peroxide labels for bottles as seen will not be in until Monday, but we did not want to delay in putting the better solution into practice at the club. The old red labels will be switched out when they arrive.

As of last week we have emailed members and added some best practice signs in the locker rooms. We have added hand sanitizing stations including the main one in the lobby used by all members before entering the workout areas.

I just wanted to express that as a club it would be good if we show a united front on being precautionary, calm and collected, while also taking this seriously and reacting with the necessary measures. There is no reason to down play the situation or hype it up. We can stick to the facts and the best practices to keep our members, ourselves, and greater community healthy.

Thanks everyone and please let me know if you have any questions.
